3 Deadly Yurt Building Mistakes That Could Cost You Thousands — And Your Warmth In Winter
After 15 years of making yurts and 8 years of living in one off-grid, I have seen the same mistakes sink projects again and again. This free guide shows you the three most expensive ones, and exactly how to avoid them.
What you get
- Mistake #1: Don’t make the base bigger than the yurt. I see this one constantly: a foundation wider than the structure lets water seep in from below. Match the base exactly to the yurt, and the water drains away on its own.
- Mistake #2: Don’t strap an insulated yurt down from the outside. External tension straps crush the insulation into a thermal bridge, and that’s where mold starts. Anchor the cover to the base at the bottom instead.
- Mistake #3: Don’t let the cover touch the ground. A cover resting on soil is an open door for rodents into your insulation. Trim it to the curve and add a small concrete edge: it drains the water and keeps them out.
